How to Make Your Hair Color Last Between Salon Visits

How to Make Your Hair Color Last Between Salon Visits
When you leave the salon you're completely in love with your new hair color, but there is always that thought in the back of your mind, "how long is this perfect color going to last?" Well, we've done our research and found out a few easy ways to help you maintain your fabulous color between visits to the salon!

1. Avoid shampooing daily.

Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to shampoo your hair every day to be "clean." In fact, most people do not require a daily shampoo. We suggest skipping a day or two between washes, and replacing those daily shampoos with a quick spritz of Privé Products Volumizing Dry Shampoo! It works miracles! We promise!

If you feel like you can't skip a day or two between shampoo's we suggest focusing on the scalp when washing your hair daily, in an effort to preserve the color and natural oils that moisturize your hair and keep the color strong.

2. Use styling products that work.

Hair color fades naturally. There are many elements that can affect the hair color that you can't control. Sun exposure, chemicals in water and just the general type of hair you were born with! What we have learned is that it's very important to use shampoo and conditioners that are specifically made for color-treated hair. Privé Products reparative shampoo and conditioner set are the perfect products to nourish your hair and keep it healthy and vibrant between color treatments. We suggest using Chroma Captive shampoo and conditioner, perfect for keeping your hair color vibrant, longer.

3. Temperature control is key.

Extreme hot and cold temperatures are not great for maintaining your hair color. Experts suggest washing your hair with a medium-range temperature then finishing with a final rinse of cool water which seals your cuticles and produces optimal shine.

4. Watch where you dip your clean hair!

Saltwater and chlorine can dry out your hair, stripping it of its nutrients and causing breakage and damage. Before jumping in, always wet your hair with plain tap or bottled water. Experts say your hair will absorb the tap water and be less likely to absorb the chlorine or salt in those types of water. It may be one extra step on a hot summer day, but trust us, your hair will thank you later.

5. Get glossy and glam.

In between color sessions you can come in for a gloss/glaze to add shine to your color to your existing look. A gloss/glaze enhances the color you have while revitalizing your hair with the nutrients it needs! It not only makes your hair look better, it feels better too.

6. Give your hair a little TLC

Coloring, blow-drying and straightening your hair causes it to lose nutrients that are very important for healthy hair. If you feel like you're constantly damaging your hair with your everyday routine, make sure you revitalize with a strong conditioner treatment to replenish your hair and seal in the color. We suggest Privé Products Intensive Mask or the Leave-in Treatment as the perfect way to restore health and replenish moisture providing the ultimate protection with a powerful dose of antioxidants and humectants beads.

7. Protect your hair like you protect your skin

If you're heading to the beach or spending a day outdoors, it's important to protect your hair from the sun. The sun can change your hair color in just a few hours of exposure, so look for products that have a little SPF to provide protection from the harsh sunlight. For this, we suggest Huile Céleste from Kerastase.
